I've heard that they hurt and that they can get caught on your skin and make them bleed... so I would recomend you get invisalign for braces :o) Other than that make sure to wear that wax they sell so that you don't get cut :o)

it's not painful at all, and my teeth are close together. The only part that felt a little painful (but not much) was when they put in the metal bands around the teeth with the spacers. Then they use cement. But other than that, getting them on is a piece of cake. Be sure to take advil. The pressure afterwards when your braces are fully on is a little annoying.

I had braces for 3 years, and it really wasn't bad at all. The first week or so after you get them, your teeth will be very sore and feel kinda "loose" for lack of a better word, because they start to move. After that they will hurt a bit maybe for a day or two after each time you have them tightened, but overall it's totally worth it. Also make sure you have lots of orthodontic wax in case any of the wires start to poke you. Good luck!!

Hi! I recently got my braces taken off about a year ago so I can still remember what it was like to have them. Getting them put on didn't hurt, really. You feel a few jerks and the dentist does press against your teeth hard, to push the metal on, but that's it. Mainly you feel pressure on your teeth. It takes some getting use to, like opening and closing your mouth, feeling the braces against the back of your lips. I got agrivated with it the first week, but after a bit you get use to them being there and its like second hand.

Yea sorry to say this but they hurt so bad. They get better after your teeth move, but then every month or so they tighten them up, and they start hurting all over again, somedays mine were so bad i couldnt eat anything solid i had to have energy drinks instead. You will probably find that your cheeks will get sore because they are rubbing against the metal all the time. Putting them on dosn't hurt at all though, they just glue the brackets to your teeth there is no drilling or injections at all. When they do start hurting you though their is brilliant stuff called bonjela, its used on babys when they are teething, its a local anesthetic, you rub it on and all you pain goes away...

I had braces a few years back and I can honestly say I dont remember any pain at all. Though perhaps some throbing as your teeth and mouth adjust. Trust me.. a little throbing at the earlier stages is nothing compared the the beautiful smile you will have when they come off.

I had braces for three years. It's very exciting. When they are tightened they will ache, but you definitely get used to them very quickly- most of the time you won't even realise they're there. Just think of your beautiful, perfect smile when they're taken off..

By the way, braces aren't a big deal at all. I think they look awesome.

it's a pain that you wont know til you have it done.
pain of metal rubbing on the insides of your lips.
pain of all the teeth moving at once.
pain of the gums being sensitive.
every tightening is the same pain of teeth suddenly being shifted.
if your teeth are bad enough, it's worth the pain.
good luck!

i had braces and it wasn't that bad...if they are metal ones they may irritate the inside of your lips and when they are adjusted it may feel like your gums are bruised a little but it's not serious. i guess it all depends on how you react to the soreness.
