I will be taking a test in a few weeks to gain state certification for a job. I am not good at taking standardized testing so I have a question. What do you do when you are taking a standardized test and you come across a word that you do not know the meaning of. How do you figure out what the word means?

Standarized tests aren't all that tough if you've prepared for the subject matter, and read all the questions thoroughly (maybe even 2 or 3 times to be sure), and check all the answers before filling anything in.

As far as words you don't know, try to break them up, and see if you can figure out what part of the word means. Also, by checking context clues, you should be able to figure something out. Finally, by looking at etymology, you may be able to discern prefixes or suffixes (like an octo-pus or octo-gon makes you think "8").

Oh, and good luck too. That never hurts.

Its no longer that i'm against standardized attempting out, i in basic terms think of that the way its set up is destructive. They take the tests approximately 3/4 in the process the college 3 hundred and sixty 5 days, meaning they might desire to squash an entire 3 hundred and sixty 5 days's curriculum into that 3/4, and then for something of the 300 and sixty 5 days there is not any new cloth for them to cover. the way the finished element is desperate up is destructive, the assumption isn't. - And to characteristic, in some places ( uncertain if its all places ) college investment is in accordance with how nicely they do on those tests, giving instructors an incentive to only disguise what's on the standardized try, which frequently isn't whats suitable for the student. This additionally skill that the brightest scholars are often held returned because of the fact the college gets no income from having a student that knows greater desirable than what's on the standardized tests - And returned, what i've got stumbled on is that the try ( in California, the action picture star try, ) would not without postpone impact the student's grade, or everlasting record, in basic terms college investment, so scholars often in basic terms blow off the try, do no longer somewhat attempt, and finally end up screwing up their college. - And returned, they cram the finished 3 hundred and sixty 5 days's attempting out right into a week's worth of on the instant effervescent in little circles, and this starts at 2d grade. With hyperactive little teenagers, getting them to take a seat in a seat for a week on the instant, 6 hours an afternoon isn't the type you get the suitable outcomes. the topics with the attempting out gadget top now bypass on and on, no newborn left at the back of ( which introduced some lot of this transformation ) became right into a destructive thought, and the finished element desires reform.

I often use context clues. I look at what section the test is about so that I know that it is probably a question about "xy or z". Quite often the questions can be connected so you can look at the one before and the one following. Last but not least just skip it and move on to the next question. If you are really prepared a later question will probably jog your memory about the word. After all, there are usually a lot of questions on these tests and missing a couple isn't going to fail you.

Try to remain calm they are not trying to trick you just certify that the training you received was adequate. Another calming thing is to find out what the passing rate is for your program. Do most people who have been through your training pass? Quite often you can identify a couple of people in training who are probably going to do worse that you! I know it sounds awful but it might calm you and calm is the key to using your memory fully. Usually you can retake the test relatively quickly so consider this first time your "practice" exam and then be ridiculously happy when you pass your "practice" exam!

I think it might be better to just skip the question entirely. If this standardized test is like the SAT, you get points taken away for answering a question incorrectly but no points taken away or given if you don't answer it at all. Your should inquire of the employer/company that is administering the test

If vocabulary is a problem with you, try asking the giver of the test if you're allowed to bring a pocket dictionary into the test. If the answer is NO, and you have problems with definitions, and no one else does, then it's up to you to start reading a dictionary. Standardized testing is designed so that everyone taking it has the same chance as the next person. If you can't hack it, then that's your illiteracy showing through.
