OK, you have two options. First, using only the two computers, you need a special ethernet cable called a crossover cable. Connect this cable to the two computers ethernet ports. Open the Control Panel, Network Connections, right click on your ethernet port and click properties. Click Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) and click properties. Select use the following IP address and on the first computer, type in 192.168.10.1 in the IP address box and type 255.255.255.0 in the default gateway box. On the other computer do the same thing, but type 192.168.10.2 in the IP address box and the same default gateway in the default gateway box. Click ok, ok. Now you're set up. If you don't have a crossover cable, then the easiest way is to get a hub or a switch, two straight-through cables, and continue with Open Control Panel above. Good luck.

Your question is not very clear. In Windows XP you can create a network. So long as both computer are using a cable to connect the two, or a router or have wireless capability, you will be able to create a network, and then set sharing rights to share files on each other's computer.

Connect a crossover cable to the nic cards on the computers. Make sure it is a crossover cable and not a straight thru cable. You can buy them or if you have the crimpers and cable u can make one yourself. Get the color diagram off of the net.
