Circumsision doesn't make your penis smaller, it removes foreskin (which has nothing to do with the size of an erection). The main reason it is done is so that the penis will be cleaner (in days when hygiene wasn't a big deal it could get infected from all the dirt, sweat and other things that might have gotten trapped).

It does not make the penis larger. Males do not have to be circumsized it is a decision made by the parents after birth. If they decide to have it done the sign a medical release giving the ok for a doctor to perform the procedure. In most cases it is done because dad is circumsized and they want to "look" the same. Also parents worry about what will happen in the locker rooms if their son is the only non circumsized boy. Previously people were told not doing it would increase UTIs and STDs but this is not true. If the boy keeps the area clean and uses condoms he is no more likely to get an std or UTI than a circusized boy. Remember .... Circumsision... It's your decision.

Circumcision: Pros and Cons
What is a circumcision?
Circumcision means cutting off the foreskin, or ring of tissue, that covers the head of the penis. It is usually done the day your newborn goes home from the hospital.
Fewer children in the U.S. are being circumcised now than several years ago. In 1979, 90% of American males were circumcised compared to 60% now.
The following information should help you decide what is best for your son.
What is the history of circumcision?
Followers of the Jewish and Moslem faiths perform circumcision for religious reasons. Nonreligious circumcision became popular in English-speaking countries between 1920 and 1950. At this time it was thought that circumcision might help prevent sexually transmitted diseases. Circumcision never became a common practice in most parts of the world. Over 80% of the men in the world are not circumcised.
What is the purpose of the foreskin?
The foreskin on the penis is not some cosmic error. The foreskin has a purpose.
* It protects the glans (top of the penis) against urine, feces, and other types of irritation.
* It protects against infection or scarring of the urinary opening (although this is rare).
* It protects the sensitivity of the glans.
What are the pros?
Some of the reasons you may want to circumcise are:
* Protects against urinary tract infections (UTIs) during the first year of life. However, UTIs are rare and easily treated.
* Prevents infections under the foreskin. It also prevents persistent tight foreskin. Both of these problems are rare and are usually due to pulling back the foreskin too often or too hard.
* Decreases the risk of getting some sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) later in life, including HIV. However, it does not completely prevent any STD.
* Lowers the risk of cancer of the penis. However, good hygiene offers equal protection against this very rare cancer.
* Keeps your son's appearance "like other boys" or "like his dad." Boys may not mind looking different from other men in their family. However, they do mind being harassed in the locker room or shower about their foreskin. This could happen if most of their buddies are circumcised.
What are the cons?
Some of the reasons not to circumcise include:
* Problems with surgery. Problems that may occur are skin or bloodstream infections, bleeding, gangrene, scarring, and various surgical accidents. One study showed that 1 of every 500 circumcised newborns suffered a serious side effect.
* Pain. The procedure causes pain. However, the doctor can use some anesthetic around the area to block some of the pain.
* Cost. You may have to pay for the surgery yourself because many insurance companies do not cover the cost.
* You must decide quickly. If you initially decide not to have your son circumcised, and then change your mind after your son is 2 months old, the procedure will require a general anesthesia. So try to make your final decision during the first month of life.
Recommendations
Circumcision of boys for religious purposes will continue. The need to circumcise other boys is open to question. Just because a father was circumcised doesn't mean that the son needs to be. Because the foreskin comes as standard equipment, you might consider leaving it intact, unless your son will be going to a school where everyone else is likely to be circumcised. The risks and benefits are both too small to swing the vote either way. This is a parental decision, not a medical decision.
Circumcision Care and Problems
What is a circumcision?
A circumcision is the removal of the normal male foreskin. The incision is red and tender at first. The tenderness should be minimal by the third day. The scab at the incision line comes off in 7 to 10 days. If a Plastibell ring was used, it should fall off by 14 days (10 days on the average). While it cannot fall off too early, don't pull it off because you could cause bleeding.
Any cuts, scrapes, or scabs on the head of the penis may normally heal with yellowish-colored skin if your baby has been jaundiced. This bilirubin in healing tissue is commonly mistaken for an infection or pus.
How can I take care of my child?
* Plastibell ring type
Gently cleanse the area with water 3 times a day or whenever it becomes soiled. Soap is usually unnecessary. Petroleum jelly or an antibiotic ointment should be applied to the incision line and head of the penis after cleansing to keep it soft during healing.
* Incision type (no plastic ring is present)
Remove the dressing (which is usually gauze with petroleum jelly) with warm compresses 24 hours after the circumcision was done. Then care for the area as described for the Plastibell.
When should I call my child's health care provider?
Call IMMEDIATELY if your child has been circumcised recently and:
* The urine comes out in dribbles.
* The head of the penis turns blue or black.
* The incision line bleeds more than a few drops.
* The circumcision looks infected.
* Your baby develops a fever.
* Your baby is acting sick.
Call during office hours if:
* The circumcision looks abnormal to you.
* The Plastibell ring does not fall off within 14 days. (Note: It can't fall off too early.)
* You have other concerns or questions.

There is no real necessity to being circumcised. Some say that there is more chance of infections (yeast etc.) when you are not circumsized. The foreskin sometimes does not pull back properly also. The penis is actually not chopped off. The foreskin, that hood like thing, is what is cut down. From my experience guys who are circumsized are actually biggr and better in bed. They last longer they are not as sensitive down there. The circumsized penis is really more attractive than the uncut. And in terms of a religious thing I am not sure why they preform the Bisc ( I am not so sure of the spelling there) but it is a Jewish custom not Catholic or Christian. Most Catholics are not circumsized. Hope I cleared up some of your misconceptions.

Because when a males foreskin isn't removed it can cause infections if not cleaned well enough. Circumcision is just considered more hygienic. It also doesn't make a penis shorter, it just removes the skin at the top. No, it doesn't induce fertility. I'm Christian and I don't know of it being a "religious thing" in my religion. I think it is with the Jewish culture...I'm not sure...you should do a search on-line.

hI don't know what it has to do with religion but I do know some other things about it.
-WHen a boy is circumcised, it is the process of taking off the forskin on the penis
-The forskin doesn't make the penis bigger or longer.
-If not taken off, there is a great chance of an infection getting into the forskin flap that is on the penis head.
-AN infection is very painful inside the flap of the forskin.
-Most people have it done for sanitary reasons.
-If it isn't done, then the mother has to clean under the flap and make sure there isn't any pee, poop, or dirt underneath that will cause an infection
-Having the forskin instacked is troublesom and makes it hard on the mom when taking care of her newborn baby.
I hope this has helped you understand why guys get circumsized when they are babies.

It's more or less a traditional thing started for hygiene reasons. It doesn't alter the size of the penis, it just removes excess skin.
It can also be done for religious reasons(jewish, Briss).
It's not customary to circumcise in Northern Europe, unless for medical reasons. The male foreskin can actually become too tight to allow being pulled back over the glans penis making it difficult to clean under, which can lead to infections and possibly making erections painful.

To circumcise or not to circumcise - that is the question.
I can only give you my experience which is this: I did not get circumcised until about age 30.
First, there is stuff that collects under the foreskin if not kept scrupulously clean. Aside from that, sex can be extremely painful especially if you don't use lubrication. I actually tore the part that connects the foreskin and it was painful. No, it does not shorten the penis because the foreskin covers the head of the penis.

In the past circumsicion used the be mainly a religious thing but more and more it has become a health issue. It is easier and more hygienic for a boy to have a circumsicion because it is easier to keep the tip of the penis clean, it is not however something that has to be done.

Guys don't have to be circumcised. It is optional. There are many reasons. It is easier to keep it clean and prevents some diseases. There are also religious reasons to circumcise. It is really a personal choice of the parents.
