Have you checked the lock tab on the side of the floppy?

If it is locked it can act funny like that.

Also, try exploring the disk rather than open it, same thing but its a bit different.
Right click start, and hit explore, this will open windows explorer, then find the drive listed for your floppy, usually A. Just click it one time,no double click, and see if it lets you view the contents.

If neither of these work, wait for a better answer if there is one. Good Luck

Try this one, it's free and may recover it:
ANALYZER for RECOVER Floppy Pro 0.1
Recursive disk level data recovery analysis software for bad Floppy Disks. Single recursive run lists all files having a folder entry from an inaccessible floppy disk. Listed files and orphaned files can be recovered by using RECOVER Floppy Pro v1.0. Meant for floppy disks that generate 'Drive A: is not accessible' or 'The disk in drive A: is not formatted' errors in WINDOWS.

GO DOWN THE PAGE AND WATCH FOR THE TITLE, THE DOWNLOAD LINK IS ON THE RIGHT. GOOD LUCK

UPDATE:
EDDie - Yes it can have data on it, and if it becomes corrupt or the disc is dirty, then it will render the floppy as unformated to the computer, when actual data resides on the floppy..

If your floppy was not formatted, there is no way you could have saved any info. Do you still have the info on your hard drive? You would need to copy it again after your format the floppy.

if you indeed save anything to the floppy, something happend to the floppy structure making it unreadabel.
This is fairly common for floppys. (to me anyway)
You could try it in another computers floppy drive, other than that it looks like you are out of luck.
