They are both awsome guitar players, but if you had to choose one....which do you prefer?

I'm glad you didn't ask which one is better! That would be like comparing apples and oranges.(I know that's an old clique) They are both excellent guitar players and great innovators of the instrument. Eddies playing is incredibly melodic and has a happy energetic feel. I enjoy listening to his playing much more than Carlos. To be quite honest, I used to like Carlos more than I do now. His recent collaborations with other artists is getting a little old. His playing sounds the same on every song and tends to get a little annoying. But that's just my ear.

EVH is a god, no doubt, but Santana has dedicated his entire life towards making the guitar speak, and you can tell. Van Halen may run circles around Santana in terms of speed, but Santana says just as much with half as much playing.

Eddie Van Halen.
Carlos Santana is very good, but Eddie did a lot in creating styles of playing and is a ground breaker when it comes to sounds and tones. I mean, anyone that had to play with his back to the crowd because other guitar players were coming to the shows to steal his licks has to be some sort of innovator.

Santana hands down ! I think we have every album/CD he's ever made . We got to see him in concert one time. WOW !!!!!!
It was one I'll NEVER forget.
But I'm probably older then the people that will choose Van Halen. I'm not saying I don't like him, but given the option, Santana !

Hi,, Santana is a living legend.... he played at the 1st Woodstock concert in 1969, and is still making music to this day....
cant say that about eddie boy......he was a flash in the pan.. compaired to Carlos....
