You may need a new one. You could try mineral spirits (gasoline) or acetone, but you must be extremely careful with either of these as both are highly flammable, and the dryer should (after the cleaning attempt) air out (preferably outdoors, where it would also be advisable to do the cleaning) for at least a day to let all the solvent evaporate. If any solvent remains in the dryer when you try to use it, there WILL be a fire.

What kind of pen?
I had a ball point pen that exploded in the dryer but I did not have to buy a new one. I just wet a old towel and let it spin a whole bunch of times until it got all the ink on the towel and not on the dryer.
Wasted quite a bit of electricity but it was worth not having to buy another dryer! Now I am very careful to check my pockets before putting it in the washer/dryer.
Good luck!

I've had this happen more than once, unfortunately. I usually run a couple of loads of old towels or sheets or something I don't care about staining through it. That cleans up the excess that will actually come off in the heat, then the dryer is fine for regular loads, even though some of the pen marks are still there.

Heat will put ink into clothing. I would call the place where I purchased a dryer and ask them or get a repair man and pay him to fix it if he can. As far as buying a new one, depends on how rich you are. Can you afford to throw a dryer away if so buy a new one. I sure would't dry cloths if the ink comes off when the dryer is hot.

You can try lacquer thinner, but make sure you have it dry really well, before using the dryer so it doesnt explode.
You can also try a ink remover, I think its called stain out yellow bottle, 2 oz. Laundry Soap section at WalMart.
Maybe, its worth a try, aerosol hair spray.
Good luck.

if the dryer is old than that's not a bad idea. i would have thought that acetone would have worked.if you can get to the other side of the tumbler and clean both sides that might work.i once worked for Lowe's and sometimes you can get a dent and scratch dryer cheap;and be sure you know if it is gas or electric

I use hair spray to get ink out of cloths. Maybe it would work getting out of the dryer. Just cheap stuff like Aqua net.
