Is it truly necessary for them to know because I feel uncomfortable without people knowing

Tell those you know you can trust. Others might be cranky and mean about it. This is going to be hard to do as it is. Good luck,Hon!

If you're comfortable with other people knowing, some of them staying away, others being friendlier and others hitting on you; you should just tell them. Also, you can just tell your friends, if they are truly they won't care about your sexual preference.
