Because people tend to solve things quickly, sometimes way too quickly. And don't really think before they ask, but simply put it out there and ask WHY! And hope for quick answers! Feeling of helplessnes and despereation leads to questions that start with why! Take your time rethink the issue and try to understand and just try to confirm your answer, rather then just asking WHY! That is why I dislike it when people -adults - tend to ask WHY a lot! It's like get a clue - think!

I think people ask why to assure themselves that the other party is thinking on the same level. It's our way of saying "tell me what you're really thinking" without being so direct.
