One time I overcame severe depression by doing volunteer work at the hospital. They put me in the respiratory ward at the VA, and it was one of the most horrifying and gratifying things I've ever done.
Horrifying because as a young girl of 16, I'd never seen such depths of human suffering or witnessed death first hand; gratifying because it meant the world to me to make someone who was hurting actually smile, or feel cared for, or go home at the end of each day knowing I had made someone else's burden just a little lighter.
I was depressed in the first place because of a huge breakup with someone I loved dearly. I went in feeling worthless and so sad I didn't want to live. I'm not saying I was "cured" overnight, but it did happen. And I felt so much better about myself and my own life. I began to see the blessings all around me, and not just my own problems. (Which paled in comparison....)
I hope this helps. Only you can decide what's best for you, but I am a firm believer in helping others during times of sadness.

Chitra there are various ways in which you can come out of sadness. But one way i can recommend is that you first find out what is the reason for your sadness. Go down deep in your thoughts to analyse and trace out the root cause of your sadness. Once you find out what the real reason is then 99 percent chances are you will have a solution to eradicate the sadness yourself. Because often we try to linger on in a particular state of mind - in your case 'SADNESS' now, and maybe dancing, listening to music etc does help but it is momentary or temporary. To eradicate your state of sadness hit right at the root cause of it and enjoy permanent state of bliss. Easier way is to distract yourself, do everything to pretend you forgot the actual reason thats causing you the pain.
The other way is to look into the face of the issue thats bugging you and try addressing it with vigor and courage and you vanquish the reason. However big the cause, it is better handled, you come out much lighter and content at the end, doing it this way.

hi, if you are feeling sad try to divert your mind for eg. go for a walk,spend some time with your family,play with your pet,go out and have fun with your friends
or even try meditation [that really works for me]
.Always remember to think positive,stop blaming your self and automatically you will be happy

Why are you sad? My girlfriend just took all her stuff, and moved out today. I got home, and she was gone. I'm sad too. I'm trying Yahoo Answers to cheer me up. Maybe it'll help you. Keep faith in yourself, and I'll try to be faith in myself too.

Set a small goal for yourself. Like a cleaning project, maybe your room. Clean everything, closets, drawers, give away your old clothes. After you're finished you should feel like you've accomplished something and you're on your way to feeling good again.
