Should we get rid of or tighten the hell out of social services? I know there are some that need help and don't have a problem with it, but from what I have seen about 90% are just taking advantage of the system. I know this one lady that is recieving housing, food stamps, and several other forms of aid.
yet she works under the table making enough money to buy a 30 k dollar car put 6 k in rims on the thing and parties everynight.....

~~ And what is focusing on this gaining you? What have you done lately to better your own life? How are those night classes going? Your neighbor has chosen her path, get over it. Your path is up to you. Rise above.
~~Oh, and quit whining.

I do think that the Social Services do need to have a better system. I know some people who probably need it but because the dad owns a car worth maybe $7,000 and needs it to drive to work to earn his minimum wage they don't qualify and then on the other hand, I have seen people who live in nice houses driving really nice cars and their kids were wearing $150 pairs of shoes and the mom had enough gold on her teeth and around her neck to open a jewelry store and they qualify for everything. The system needs to be fairer so everyone who needs it gets it and everyone that doesn't need it don't. In the long run it is coming out of mine and everyone elses pay checks because I am a responsible person and I work for everything that I have.

I couldn't get unemployment when I was laid off - the boss hired me back part time after a few weeks, and it was enough to keep me out of getting the help I really needed to make it through that month. The system encourages people to just stop working - I made the mistake of doing everything I can to keep afloat, and it worked against me. Not that I'm sorry about it, though, I'm going to work as much as I am able.

Years ago they made you report every thing of value you owned, I know that there are ways around this, but she would have had to show how she got the car, paid for it ect. If you have too much in personal property your benefits got cut.
Yeah I agree with you they should tighten things up.
Did you know that the USA pays for all of the benefits for Puerto Rico, of which over 75% of the people are on welfare.

More restrictions are needed but providing them could be tricky when theres not enough people in that field to do the necessary investigative work that needs to be done..There will always be abusers of the system, maybe someday they will be stopped maybe they wont..they have to live with themselves & we must survive the best we can as well..

When you consider that all federal social programs are extra-constitutional, I'd say we're past due for serious changes. Even a complete end, with a gradual phase out to appease the do-gooders and socialists(Social activists).

We need to tighten up on those services. I work my butt off to be able to provide for my children. When I was fired in april, I couldn't even get unemployment for 3 months (they were punishing me for being fired)... and even when I was eligible for it, they wouldn't give it to me... thank goodness I got a job paying over $30/hr. But it does burn my butt that I have to help provide for these other people who don't even bother to try to better themselves or find a job. I'm all for helping people in a time of need... but not for their entire lifetime...

yeah we have some bad apples taking advantage. Rudolf Giuliani took care of that in NYC. he made everyone on welfare that could work, work. they had to work for their allotment. that cut the welfare in NYC by half no one wanted to work for their checks.
1996 quote from Giuliani:
Over the last year and a half we have moved 155,000 people off welfare. And our workfare program -- which is by far the largest in the nation -- has 34,000 participants who work in return for their welfare check. New York City has now become a model for workfare, while maintaining our long tradition of caring for the needy.
