There can and will be new Star Trek series and movies in the future. In fact, the next movie is already in the pipeline.
I'm unlikely to get my wish, but I'd like the next series to be an anthology series, with each show having a different cast, and a different location. You could have shows about Klingon crews, Romulan crews, Gorn, Cardassians, etc. You could visit any period in the Trek timeline, including other Constitution Class ships in Kirk's era. Who knows, we might even find out what happened to the First Federation. (From The Corbomite Maneuver)

I heard that there is a new movie in the works and that it will be around the time of the original series but will not have any of the characters from the different series (how can they do this?). I was hoping for a movie that had a few characters from all of the different series (maybe Spock, Picard, Worf, Bashir, Janeway, etc) set after the dominion war. That type of movie would be a big money maker since all trekies should like it.

There can and have been Star Trek series without DeForrest Jelly and James Doohan. If there's money involved there will be.

G'day,
There are lots and lots of new ideas coming up with the books/novels that would be good to be made to movies/series. Star Trek-Next Frontier (Captain McKenzie Calhoun) is one of them (I'd really like to see what Kebron looks like); SCE is the other one. Even Next Gen's spin-off... TITAN will be a good one to watch, altho it will be just another Next Gen actually.
Still... as one of the earlier answer stipulates, it is good to have one movie that has characters from all series included in it. That'll be a blast for us Trekkies. Hope Rick Berman or Brannon Braga visit this site ;)
Good luck for us Trekkies. May we live long and prosper.

If there is George Takai has got to come out as the first gay captain of a Star Ship it would be hilarious.

I believe there will be, because as long as people continue to wonder what is out there, and what we can do to make the world (or universe) a better place. There will always be a new mission.
