First, you will need a router switch. About 30 Bucks from Wal-mart. Plug your ethernet connection into the Uplink port, and the computers into the outgoing ports. Then use the Network setup wizard. You can find that in Network and Internet options in Control Panel. Use the same Workgroup name for both, the default name, MSHOME is fine and easy. Restart both computers. You're done.

Buy a cheap hub if you don't want to share an internet connection.
Buy a router if you want both to have access to internet. router is more secure than the share internet function of Windows

pc to pc with a ethernet corssover cable, put the same workgroup on both computers, and satic ip, also you can share internet
