He was swimmin last week in a salt water pool. He does not seem to have any vision issues but he says they bother him and are itchy. He often seems to be looking out of the side of his eyes and it is more obvious when he is in the sun. I have given him "clear eye" drops but does not seem to help. I went to his doctor but he did not seem concerned but he is continuing to look out of the side of his eyes and he is bothered by it. Any suggestions?

I'd get him looked at by an eye doctor...a specialist and immediately...even if it's just a quick phone call to one I am sure they could tell you right over the phone what might be wrong.

He might need special prescription eye drops to allow his eyes to heal. My guess is the salt in the pool was very excessive and BURNED his eyes. Don't just give him any old eye drops either it could just irritate them worse and cause infection.

Kids shouldn't swim in salt water pools without goggles. I don't think it's good for them.

Take him in as you don't want them to get infected or worse. Make sure he wears sunglasses outside in the meantime. Eyes are sensitive and can burn and people who don't protect their eyes end up with cataracts when they are older.

Not sure, but my 4 year old son does the same thing. My son usually only complains about brightness when we go outside on a bright sunny day. Does he have any allergies? Those tend to make the eyes itchy.

Sorry I couldn't be of any more help. Hope you are able to find something to help him.

Take him to a Pediatric Ophthalmologist who will know about the side vision issue and the irritated eyes. A general pediatrician will not know this specialty.

Your son might need to be seen by an ophthalmologist. Be careful with the over the counter treatments for eyes. They can be irritating on some people.
