Interestingly, a god or gods creating the universe is is a common misconception. Every tribe, culture, society, and people have mythologies for the creation. The mono God mythology is quite common in western societies.
There really is no evidence for an intelligent creator, and if there was, you would have to explain what created the creator. Endless cycle.
In fact, we are still learning, no one really knows how the universe was created. Perhaps we will never know. Astronomers and cosmologists at least work with evidence...and certainly their ideas are much more interesting than "the 'poof' God created it" myths that are so popular in this so-called enlightened and progressive age.
