College is nothing like high school. If you slack off in college, nobody is going to pull you up and tell you to get in gear. Instead you will get dropped and have gone in debt.

Secondly, what you do in college actually has some effect on the rest of your life, as your GPA and activities will determine whether you get into professional programs.

No way.

While some rooms and seats might look the same after that the simialrities end.

Some undergraduate classes are held in the Auditorum with 200+ students.

Classes in small rooms are vaugly like highschool.

The pace is faster and the work load harder.

You generally get 3 hours of homework for each 1 hour of class time.

You are generally expected to type everything double spaced, one inch margines with a table of authorities and they often expect 7 or more citations.

In some classes with limited accomodations the teacher puts up a sign up sheet and the student lie in wait and all take up the time posted in the first 5 minutes, leaving almost no time for anyone not there.

The libraries generally stay opne from 7 am til 10 or even 11 pm 6 nights a week and shorter hours on Sundays.

Everyone hogs the xerox machines.

All the machines have books on them from the last student copying pages.

A friend of mine took Astro Physics and the teacher had a problem on three blackboards and said: We will be disccusing this problem over the next two years.

My friend did A work in high school and squeeked out of UCLA with a Cs and Ds in some classes.

Falling blow 3.0 will put you on Academic Probation.

Don't get your GPA up and they won't let yo uback after the next semesiter!

No it is not like high school. It is much harder. Your professors don't care about you like your teachers did. You alone are respomsible for going to class and learning. You will need to learn your lessons and study so you can make something of yourself. On the first day you need a spiral notebook and pens. Your prfessors will tell you what they require. Each college is different as to social fabric. You can make friends or not as it will be up to you. Just be careful and don't make the mistake many frshman do which is to party too much and flunk out.

My college experience was better than high school. Don't get me wrong, I had a blast in high school... but I grew more in college. College is different from high school because in high school you have daily or weekly assignments to keep you on track. In college the professors expect you to keep on top of the work but usually don't require homework to be turned in. It's more on the honor system, I guess. YES... make friends... you will learn just as much from those around you as you do in class. I suggest that you attend ALL classes. My first quarter in college I tended to ditch class to go to the beach. (I'm in Southern California) I had a hard time with my midterms and finals because of the beach. GO TO CLASS! Other than that... remember to let loose, don't be afraid to try new things or meet new people. HAVE FUN! Make the next four years of your life the best!

Your college experience will depend on you and who you are. Dont worry about it so much. Just go to class and live your life. You will find where you fit in and where you feel comfortable. No one else can tell you what it will be like because everyone's college experience is as indivual as they are.
