Psychiatrists are medical doctors. They and vets are the two lowest paid medical subfields. In undergraduate school you major in something such as bio-chem or bio-physics. It takes maybe 8-10 years to become a psychiatrist.

You can become a psychologist with less effort because there is less competition to get into graduate school. The major difference is that psychiatrists can prescribe medicine. It may be that some states allow psychologists to prescribe but certainly not all states. My aunt was a psyc nurse and she could prescribe, I think. Both psychologists and psychiatrists can have clinic practices where they see patients. They can both teach and conduct research. Psychiatrists can also work in hospitals with in-patients. Psychologists study 4 years undergrad and about 3 years grad.

Clinical social workers probably study 4 years undergrad and 2 years grad.

I studied clinical psychotherapy for awhile and that required three years of study after a graduate degree.
