Some units carry as much as 10 years warranty on the compressor. You should check on that.

Have the company that fixed your unit come a have another look. It could be that they didn't really fix the problem, they just fixed what seemed to be the problem.

If your unit is a particular brand, be sure that whoever works on it is certified and trained on that brand.

If your unit is over 10 years old, you shouldn't spend a lot of money on repairs. Consider replacing your system and having your duct work professionally cleaned.

a/c is one of the things we depend on the most and take care of the least.

You need to find out what caused it to stop operating and how much it's going to cost to repair it. Don't assume it's the compressor just because it isn't cooling the house. There could be a leak in the line or any number of other more or less minor problems. Get a number of professional opinions and estimates before making any conclusions. Ask questions of everyone who checks the unit. Why do they think whatever their opinion is is the problem? How much do the parts cost? What does the labor cost? How is the labor charged? By the hour? Is all time, such as travel time to and from the job and running for parts, included in the labor costs? Will there be a written warranty on the parts and labor? How long will it be effective? Specifically what will it cover and to what degree?

These are just a few ideas, but I think maybe I've given you something to think about.

Good luck.

It depends on the condition of the unit in general. If the a/c is old you can fix several times at almost the cost of a new one and still have a relic. Consider a new one.

Call back the company that did the repair. They probably warranty their work, & if it's the same problem, they should fix it under the warranty.
