I think it is beautiful and unique

I have to admit it, the first time i read, i was what?? but then it grew on me. It is definitely unique and has a sweet sound to it. Yes, it is very similar to Mariah but then when people realize its Narriah then they would be "ohhh wow, never heard that name before". Its not a name that ppl would forget. I know I wont. Besides, any name that is different (such as foreign one) is always being pronounced and spelled funny and hence, corrected all the time. Its just something that ppl with unique names have to go thru. It makes it kind of fun in its own way.

My son's name is very similar to my brother's and I always get teased about it but it has a beautiful meaning to it. At first, I was like my husband and I made a mistake but now i just ignore it. So what if it does sound like my bro's? I hope my son turns out to be as wonderful and sweet as my brother - he's always been my role model so maybe it was just meant to be that way. Names do affect a child and my son's name meaning is to live a good life and as a mother what else could i possibly wish for?

Dont listen to your mother about it. She'll get over it cuz once she sees her grandchild then all the "hate" would just melt away. If she constantly bugs you about it, just tune her out. My mom didnt like that name at first either and probably doesnt care too much for it now but who cares?! My child, my decisions! Suggestions are just that - suggestions, not words written on stone. =)

What does Narriah mean by the way? Please do answer it by putting in the additional details.

Enjoy being a mommy!

My question is... Exactly what did your baby ever do to you? I think people who want unique names are great BUT remember she will have to live with the "uniqueness" her entire life and she may not be so happy with you for it. You can be unique with out making it up yourself. There are plenty of names that are not common and there is always something nice about naming her after someone who meant something to you. Off the top of my head a few good girl names that you may not hear every day.... Audrey , Avery , Abbigail , Emma , Greer , Isabella , Kamryn , Carrie , Lilly , Ava , Quinn ..... Just really think about it before you do it. Also what does the father have to say about the name?

Just remember that down the road people will constantly ask her name and she'll tell them and they'll be like Mariah?? No Narriah. Oh, how do you spell it? So on and so on. I named my daughter Hailey and everyone thinks it Caeley. Then they ask how to spell it, and get even more confused. But I like it much better than Mariah. All I can think of is Mariah Carey and she drives me. Good luck

Name your child what you want. It's your baby not hers. Remember what is cute and clever for a baby may sound silly on a grown woman and also some names are not as different as you think and your child will have 4 others in her class at school with the same name.

I don't care for it, but hey, that is just me.

I do want to encourage you to think long and hard about what you name your child. A good name is something we can give our children that they will carry with them for the rest of their life. It shouldn't be a burden. Studies show that people with really odd or uncommon names are less likely to be hired at a job than an equally qualified person with a more common name.

As long as you realize that it will be mistaken for Mariah, and that the spelling will be wrong very often, it's fine. I have an unusual name that is often goofed up. But it also has received many compliments. So there are good points and difficult ones. All in all, I like my name. She will probably like hers.

I think you should name your baby whatever you like for her because she is your baby. Your mother has no right to meddle in this decision and if you allow her to do so it will only lead to more trouble for you in the future. I think you should follow your heart. I always named my children names that I thought were beautiful and unique and I didn't care what anybody else thought (except for my husband of course we picked the names together)....go with your instincts and tell her to drop the subject because she is hurting your feelings....

1) It sounds made-up.

2) People will be asking her how to spell and/or pronounce it all her life.

3) It's pretentious.

4) It sounds a lot like "Narnia". She'll be teased for this all through school.

5) You can't assign unique qualities at birth just by giving a dopey, invented name.

I think its a beautiful name, and you should name your baby whatever you want. My oldest daughters name is Galadrial. When my mom first heard it she hated the name but now because she loves my daughter she loves her name. I bet the name Narriah will grow on your mom and by the time your baby is one years old your mom will love the name.

It is a beautiful name for your little girl, and don't worry about what your mom says, remember they did not have unusual names when she became a mom. Names change just like trends, you go with what you like best and the rest be damned.
