Who cares. Every religion has problems. Every religion can be attacked on one thing or another. If you had studied the ancient history of India there is no reference to any religion - Hinduism itself was classified as a "religion" when the British came in India.
Up until that time it the divisions were based on language, and caste.. Thats what I think.. Anytime you want to control people you must first know how to divide them - this is what the British did, they invented concepts of race, religion, language, state, country, status, etc etc...

A basic human psychological trait is to join and identify yourself with a group or category. Our brains do this automatically all the time. That's why stereotyping and discrimination is such a tough problem.

People like having a feeling of self-identity. They like feeling like they belong. The feelings become especially strong when beliefs and emotions are a big factor, such as religion.

If people have a lot of faith in something, usually that faith is absolute. When someone identifies that they do not have the same faith it diminishes their notion that their faith is absolute or the only true way, because not everyone feels the same. This makes people upset, angry, hateful. Usually these emotions come from fear.

You don't have to choose. Just be prepared for some people to not accept you for your lack of choice. I say be a good person and you'll be fine.
