Well my personal opinion is this,,
Prostitution has been going on for 100's of years, It is the oldest 'profession' in the world and that proves that there is a need for it.
People are so quick to jump to a yes or no answer, but, as with most things in life, there are grey areas which cannot be covered by a simple yes or no.
Prostitution is a good thing for society because of 2 reasons.
1 , All men need a sexual release at some point in their lives, that point may not be when they have a willing sexual partner, so what are they to do ? rape ? or pay for the services of a lady for a short while ?
2 , A lot of women simply have nowhere to turn to for the kind of money they can make while doing this.
I do sympathise with the women who HAVE to do it to survive, but there are a lot of women who do this willingly and without being 'forced' into the lifestyle. The women I have met who HAVE to do it are generally submissive around men so the man, being a typical man, recognises this weakness and exploits it, these women generally can't be helped or 'made' to be more assertive around men,,quite a few of them do it to fund a drug habit too.
The women I have met who do this willingly are some of the brightest, most intelligent and strong willed women I have ever met in any walk of life, they are the ones who go home to a happy life with no money worries and they view their chosen profession as a job, nothing more.

Some would say, "If sex is legal, and selling is legal, then why is selling sex illegal"? I would say bcause of the stain it puts on our society. It exposes women and men to become victimized by putting themselves in risky sitution. These situations in up spilling into the communities and effecting others directly and indirectly. I can see it as if every case was where a guy had money for sex, they both had protected sex in privacy, and the girl got paid. But most cases is where Either the man or the women was trying to exloit the other and then it leads to the hurting the woman or the woman cheating the man. Everyone that's involve in prostitution are't all stable people and, here they are, putting themselves in an unstable situtation. I would hate to pay for some sex and the person providing the service is terrible and then won't give my money back, or for women being forced intercouse with a guy you know has a disease or is too big, but he already paid and you need the money. How would you expect things to turn out. Just for that I say bad Idea.

Bad...someone referred to it as a victimless crime! Why have people got such "Pretty Woman" views on prostitution? Polish women, Slovakian, Russian, Belarussian women are being forced into prostitution in this country, many other nationalities, trafficked across borders against their will. Men who pay to have sex with them are committing a serious crime. And areas of prostitution are not distinct...the difference between a woman and a girl in this country is 1 DAY, 15 to then 16 yeras of age...child prostitution, peadophilia. Where does it end? Oh so we can make lots of money out of it eh? Turn it into a real profession? A career? So when your daughter is given the chance to be a solicitor, or nurse, or whore you will see it as a viable option. Prostitution is bad...and just because something ahs been around forever does not make it right..e.g Slave Trade and racism

There are some good and some bad things about prostitution.
Firstly, because it is not legalised in a lot of areas it is dangerous for both the men and the women. There is a far higher incidence of rape, drug abuse and STDs where it is illegal. Oh, and rape is not about sex, it is about power - even prostitutes can, and do, get raped. Think Victorian England.
Secondly, where it is semi-legal (i.e. the police turn a blind eye to it or it is legal for a woman on her own, but three constitutes a brothel) then it becomes a hidden shameful thing. It goes on, but most people are shocked when they find it in their neighbourhood, especially when they find it is a brothel where the women are kept prisoner with their passports held as surety, i.e. one of the three sets of modern day slaves. This is England today.
Thirdly, where prostitution is legalised, but still considered shameful. There is less disease, women are less likely to be doing it because they need to pay for drugs (the brothel owners would not accept it) and both benefit. However, it is still a business and the woman a commodity, leading to a loss of self esteem. This is Holland today.
Fourthly, there is where it is a well-paid, respected profession. Women do it because they enjoy it and are in charge of their own career. This is the ideal, and this is good, but, unless people campaign for it, will it be the future?

Good,
Some people have a hard time getting sex and without prostitution they might go through their lifes and never get laid. And it could keep women from getting raped. Why rape and go to jail for the next 20 years when you could just pay 100 bucks and get a nice body to hang on to for an hour. Cost a man a lot more then tht to get laid by just meeting women. Most of the time in datting it cost a hundred bucks each date and you have to date 6 times just so the woman can prove to you she is not a whore.
Yes Prostitution has a place and should be approved by the gov.

It feels good at the time, if you are horny but it is over very quickly ( hardly the hour mentioned previously!) and boy, then do you feel B A D and ashamed.
It's a necessary evil because many men do not get it enough from their partners. Its also a necessary evil for because many times the girls ( and their lazy sponging partners) need the money for smack.
I sometimes wonder who exactly is exploiting WHO though, aren't those women predators too? I'm not sure I always ascribe to the "poor, exploited women" theory. Personally i think that those who live from the PROFITS of prostitution- their boyfriends, usually- should have to pay high penalties if caught.
So yes the good just outweighs the bad I suppose.

It's the world's oldest profession.
I guess they have a product to sell, but our moralistic society won't allow it and I think it's really a money issue. The government can't get the money from the whores (cause the pimps have it all) so they go after the johns and possibly destroy families, jobs, etc. It is a victimless crime, but there need to be rules regarding health concerns, etc. and child prostitution and sex slavery a BIG NO NO. no end to human depravity.

Good. If it became a legal profession, It would provide more taxes and relieve the middle class tax payers of the heavy burden of carrying this country. It relieves a man's sexual frustration and I don't believe there is a woman having sex that doesn't want something in return anyway! How many women out there can honestly say they've never recieved a gift (ring, car, money, dinner, etc.) in exchange for sex?

Prostitution is good. There is nothing wrong with a women using her body for profit. If a man can destroy his body in a boxing ring there is nothing wrong with a women doing it too. If you don't like prostitution based upon a moral position, you don't have to support her economically by paying her. Eventually if enough people don't pay her for her services then she will go out of business.

I don't think you can throw a book. It is often done to self sustain as it is certainly not done as a 'fun' pursuit on top of day time duties. Prostitution sees many desperate people in difficult circumstances and the historical exploitation of these people shows the flaws in our compassion for needs.
