it's kind of a crap-shoot. Let the buyer beware! Many sellers don't know anything about what they're selling, but they do understand that once money changes hands, the sale is final. Also the bidding process can cause you to bid higher than the laptop is worth, and some sellers have unrealistic ideas about the value of their merchandise. Avoid people who are selling incomplete units. Buying individual replacement parts is expensive. I was only ripped off once. I subsequently did purchase a laptop on ebay, and have been very pleased with it. Only buy from people with a ton of positive ratings. But I think it's better to buy a laptop locally, so you can try it out, and have someone to talk to if something goes wrong.
Now here's what I really think:
The cost of new laptops has dropped so low that it is a mistake to buy used (especially sight-unseen). New laptops start around $600. If you buy a used laptop for three hundred, then find you need more memory and a hard drive and the mouse doesn't work too well and the screen is acting weird (and all these things happen), you've just wasted your three hundred and anything you spend on repairs and upgrades, and in the end you'll still have an old laptop that may not have been worth 300 in the first place. So I strongly recommend trying to buy a new one, so you get the use of all those new features like wireless networking and large hard drive, etc. Good luck

YES! You can safely buy laptops off ebay. But there are some guidelines you should follow so you don't get hosed. See http://www.gallconsulting.com/tips/buyingdellsonebay.htm
But I can save you a shortcut. e-mail pkaapcke@aol.com who is an ebay seller i've used for three years to buy over 100 Dell laptops. Only had two issues and he replaced the laptop within days. I even spilled coffee into one and he swapped me and handled the repair on that unit. The thing is you can't buy a laptop on ebay from just anybody, you have to do your homework and take steps to protect yourself. Or e-mail Peter at the address I gave, tell him John with the Tommy Bahama shirts sent you and he'll take GREAT care of you. That is if you want a Dell.

If you are looking for a used laptop, ebay is an excellent place to buy one.
You need to check feedback on your seller, make sure they have a good reputation. READ THE AD!! Different sellers accept only certain payment methods, or charge higher or lower amounts for shipping. Make sure you know how much you can spend before you bid, and dont go over that amount, INCLUIDING SHIPPING!!
Find out as much as you can about the laptop first. get the specs through google if you have to, read the ad to find out if anything is missing or does not work. ask the seller questions before you bid.
Once you are sure you are bidding on the right auction for you, bid high. Gives you a beter border befgore you get outbid. but expect last minute bidders. either enter a high proxy bid early, and dont go over what you can afford, or sit at your computer and watch it nonstop the last two hours. could take you a while, but your svaings could be well worth it.
Otherwise.. go to futureshop.ca

Yes it is, BUT check the sellers Ratings, Anything less than a 96%, do not mess with, and check to see if the software is included, and any return policies, and refund policy. And check the amount charged for Shipping, Shop Wisely.. The next step is to may a little more and buy a new Dell Laptop, Cheap... Good Luck

Be very careful buying a laptop on eBay. Check out the seller's rating, and be sure there is a return policy.

I buy things off of ebay, but i wouldn't buy a laptop off of it. Also I heard that dell laptops aren't good quality but they do sell good desktops. Just to let you know.

I wouldn't buy anything of this nature on eBay as it is sight unseen. You could easily be shafted. Better off to check your classified ads in your local paper. Someone is always selling something.

Hell no. Don't buy anything like that on Ebay. Go to Fry's electronics (Outpost.com) or go directly to the manufacturers (Dell, Gateway, Apple)
