It depends upon the surface. If you are racing on grass or trails, you need a good trail shoe such as Brooks Cascadia. If you are training or racing on pavement, I would recommend New Balance because they come in every size and width. New Balance also makes a good trail shoe NB 872. It is very important to go to an actual running speciality shoe to try out shoes becuase what works well for me, may not be good for you! At a running strore, the sales people are usually runners themselves as opposed to a regular sporting goods store where you don't know the expertise of the sales crew.

I don't think the brand makes much difference.

New Balance, Nike, Saucony, Brooks and others are all good.

You might want a trail shoe for cross country.

Which ever one fits your foot best. If you have ran before, stick with what works. If you haven't, go to a local running store. Not a store that sells all types of shoes, a real running store. Most areas have one that is staffed with knowledgeable people. Check with your coach if you don't know. Most also give a 5-15% discount for people on a team.

Personally, i always used Nike, but i know people who can't put nike on their feet without getting shin splints.

I love nike shox. I've used them before for cross country and they work great. They are durable, protect your foot, and you can't feel every pebble under your foot like most shoes. They are about $100.00 but it's a great investment. Hope I helped! :) God Bless

you'll want to get a spike for the races, but if you go to your local running store, they'll fit you for a shoe and stuff. i personally really like mizuno, brooks, asics, new balance, nike....but stay away from shox. they're not very good for your feet. the 360 looks cool...but expensive........

Nike Air is great for cross country. They give you that extra jump.
