A cure for cancer is not as profitable as all the medicines used to treat the symptoms of the disease... doubtful that a cure (if found) will be made known for a long time... if ever.

I may be embarrassingly naive, but as far as I can see when developments/progress occur markets change but corporations tend to adjust to those changes.

I like to believe (although I'm aware I could be wrong) that if someone found a certain cure for cancer there would be plenty of incentive for that person and any institution/corporation with which he/she were affiliated to make such a discovery very public.

It seems to me that through history there have been many products which have been discontinued because the demand for them as dwindled; and companies do their best to identify new potential markets and needs (and even attempt to create demand by convincing people that they have a need for something that until now they didn't think they did).

There are so many different types of cancers, and there are slow-growing cancers, fast-growing cancers, and slow-growing that turn to fast-growing, etc. Then there are the individual patients and their level or responding or not responding to treatment. I can see how it is entirely possible that there is not one cure for all cancers. These days cancers are treated based on the type of cancer and on the patient.

I believe that one cure for all cancers can only come if science understands the real and complete bottom-line set of circumstances or events that trigger the successful growth of cancers; and it seems entirely plausible to me that science does not yet have all those answers. I know all kinds of "iffy" and questionable practices go on within corporations and governments, but I need to believe that someone somewhere would draw the line on something like withholding any "magic bullet" cure for cancer.

The way cancer is treated now is a matter of trying to stop the growth of, or cause the reversal of, tumors. If it was discovered that some certain blend of nutrients prevented the development of tumors the pharmaceutical would start trying to create pills that offered those in one easy tablet. If it was discovered that a certain blood pressure number or a certain degree of stress contributed they could get to work trying to invent a product that would guarantee the perfect and exact blood pressure or temperature or reduced stress in everyone in the world in order to prevent the development of cancer. In other words, its entirely possible a solid understanding of what gets a cancer started could open up markets that are far larger than the present cancer-patient market.

If it was discovered that an apple a day or six and a half cups of tea a day prevented the development of cancer the pharmaceutical companies would find some other disease or even some other non-drug product to expand to.

There would be time for the medical professionals and pharmaceutical companies to do more work in the areas of things like Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Autism, spinal cord injuries, etc. etc. etc.; and if it were possible to find cures for everyone who taking medication for anything today and to eliminate all conditions and diseases that exist today, I suspect the pharmaceutical companies and health-care fields would see that developing over time and would begin to readjust their plans for the future.

I'm not hopelessly naive because I am aware that there's the chance that as I sit here in my own little personal world I could be very wrong about what I think; but I need to believe that the people who are out there working in pharmaceutical companies and the government are - most of the time - just decent people who have their own families and their own morals; and somehow, even if some unscrupulous individuals wanted to withhold a cure there could be ways to get past that.

It is even possible that science already knows what set of medical circumstances or events must be in place in order to get a cancer started, but what may not be possible is telling people some simple formula so that they can prevent that set of circumstances or events from taking places at some certain and specific time in their metabolism or life in order to head off cancer.

I know its possible some "funny business" goes on, and I know there's certainly corruption. I need to believe, though, that a cure for cancer would be such a huge thing for the entire world's population there could actually be more reason and incentive to make it public than there would be to keep it a secret.

Oh my gosh, if they had a good cure for cancer or a vaccine for it they could sell drugs to everyone and the government would make all of the insurance companies pay for it. The pharmaceutical companies would rake in big fortunes for cancer cures. Heck they rake in pretty good just making the treatments easier to handle.

packed food like sealed hot dogs, white sugar, all these things in food noone can pronounce on the backside, is most likely bad and creates cancer after heavy using. but, you create it yourself. foodindustry is just the dealer. compare cheap food to expensive. almost always, the cheaper the more ingridients. means, more work in producing. pharmaceutical companies subsidide bad food for curing people later with drugs and also surgery of course. big companies out there, all have one goal. actually, this must be forbidden by law. instead, they give us organic food to chose. but in case of converting to a vegi, you will experience being an outsider. no more colas, no more fastfood, no more canned food, and no meat and milk. youll see, how people react on you, and are going to be alone or with oither vegis. unfortunately many vegis dont wash their bodies or act just normal. some become real fanatic, and treat people bad for eating meat. but saving the animals mustnt be the goal, or just a byproduct. enightning people not to destroy their own bodies without turning into gypsies or whatsoever is important.

Another conspiracy plot. Actually there are many forms of cancer so there's no 'magic bullet' that would be effective on all forms of the disease.

But you can always blame the CIA if you must have a plot.

It's easier to believe that we're just too incompetent to develop any kind of important cure for Cancer, AIDS, etc.
