We went artificial. Good tree with cones. Save time and money. No worries of fire, either.
We miss the smell, so go to the lots, to look. Sometimes a branch for the centerpiece, or door wreath.
Still it's a touchy family decision, we had it before we had kids. Maybe you can alternate years?

Artificial,no pine needles to clean up. It's just much easier to deal with and you do save money. With an artificial you always know you will have a nice shaped tree. Real trees do give a nice look and smell great.

Go for artificial, There are all kinds. No mess to clean up, tree doesn't dry out. You can even keep it decorated all year long if you have the space to store it, just throw a sheet over it.

I used to have artificial but then I realized that it occupied too much space so we started using the real one. It's better because you don't have to store it afterwords and the smell is so fantastic.
