Use several strong lights to be rid of shadows.
Over your make up, dust with poweder so you don't shine. Use soft lenses to even out sharp features. A good way to do this is place a piece of an almost clear plastic bag over the lens, or smear the lens with oil. It can be cleaned off easily with detergent, water and later with optical cleaner. If you don't have a digital camera, use a lot of film so you can experiment.

For color photos: Clothes shouldn't be too light or too dark, medium tones are good, nothing busy or bright. Wear less jewelry, nothing big, wear matte eye shadows and lipsticks, in neutrals and muted jewel tones. Go easy on eyeliner and mascara, don't wear lip gloss and make sure your nails are manicured.

Be confident, wear a pretty smile, have a good hair day, sit tall, and tilt your chin a bit. Most of all, think that your pic is going to be great and you are beautiful!
