This is a very popular question. Have you checked the archives for more answers? There are alot of start up costs associated with rent, utilities, equipment, supplies, salaries, insurance, and the list goes on and on. Start with getting a business license and tax ID. Then work with COSE or SBA to help you develop a business plan. Don't wait for your ship to come in ... swim out to meet it. Just remember there is alot of competition in coffee shops like Arabica, Starbucks, plus local places. It takes alot of coffee to equal your start up costs so you may wish to consider other products and services to increase your profit margins like desserts, to go cups, and even cookbooks that feature coffee recipes.

It takes a large amount of capital to open any sort of food and beverage enterprise. Costs you should plan for include leasing or purchasing space, outfitting the space with furniture and appliances, cost of supplies such as ingredients, coffee cups, baking sheets, etc. You will need money to pay associates, unless you personally want to work every hour your shop is open. You need to be able to cover utilities and insurance. Plan to have at least six months expenses beyond the cost of opening your doors. This is why so many restaurants and cafes go under within their first year. They plan for their business to be a success instantly, and do not account for taking time to build a customer base. This info assumes you want to open independently.
If your heart is still set on this enterprise, you might try contacting a chain of stores to find out if they have franchise opportunities available. Many operations have franchise rights available for purchase, and they have payment plans set up for you. This may be a viable option for you rather than starting from scratch with no experience in what it takes to open a coffee shop.
