I have had broncitis before, I think it was last year. This past weekend I went fishing for the first time in my life so I think I may have just pulled a muscle. Maybe you can tell me? The pain is on my right side near my sternum, in the breast area I guess. It would be great if you could help me figure out what this pain is. It does not hurt all the time and my breathing is the same as before. Umm...I am worried it could be a tumor or something so I really hope you respond. Thank you soooo much!

Its probably a strained muscle, which will make you miserable when you inhale and exhale. You may be tensing up these muscles, not realizing it and making it more painful. Its more than likely its nothing serious. Best to do correct stretches for the area. If you could go to a massage therapist, preferably a sports massage therapist, they can ease up the muscles, show you correct stretches and do them for you, send you home with them to do. Of course, always check with a doctor if you have serious concerns. Not knowing family history, asking pertinent questions to determine what this is all about makes it impossible to answer further. Since you were on vacation, that says to me many things. Travel sitting in a car, on a plane, sleeping on weird beds all of these things leave people with pains they never had before. Massage therapy is the best place to start for help if you feel it is not so serious after all. If you're only 16, ask Mom and/or Dad to take you to the doctor if you're worried.

It's almost certainly not cancer, but that doesn't mean that it isn't serious. I have never even been a smoker, but I have had several serious respiratory infections, including pleurisy (which is an inflammation of the lining of the lungs and can cause pain similar to what you describe), and "walking pneumonia," which infects your lungs but not to the extent that you are completely sick in bed. The long and short of it is, you NEED to be seen by a doctor. Tell your parents and get in to see the doctor! Chances are, it will be something simple - even indigestion or acid reflux can cause pain in your chest. But you need to find out what's going on. I hope you will let us know what happens.

You did not mention if you've had an upper resp. infection. Pleurisy is an option, as it is an infection around the sac surrounding the lungs.
You also did not mention where in the chest it hurts as it could actually be a GI (gut related) problem. That would be acid coming back up from the stomach and hurting your esophagus. and it can feel like the lungs or ever the heart. Check with you Doctor. ASAP.

HEY! MAN...if you took a plane anywhere GET TO THE HOSPITAL IMMEDIATELY! I had a 20 hour flight 3 years ago (I was 23 @ the time) and started having wierd pains in my upper back/lungs about 4 hours after I got off the plane...it was a blood clot that formed in my legs...it's called a DEEP VEIN THROMBOSIS.... and the lung pain is called a PULMONARY EMBOLISM...this can be fatal if you took a plane...YOU MUST get this checked immediately!! It can come on very quick and go go your heart....young women (especially those on the pill or who smoke) get this quite frequently... GOOGLE: DVT or Pulmonary Embolism or Cardio-Pulmonary Embolism! You really have to get to a hospital and get it checked e-mail me pat_e_cakes@hotmail.com if you have any questions!
ADD ON: I realise everyone is giving you a bunch of crazy answers and stuff...but SERIOUSLY if you took a plane you should get to a hospital IMMEDIATELY....I didn't because I thought it was nothing thought I was jet lagged and I almost died....literally, this is not just some internet crap i'm trying to spew it really happened...if it it goes to your heart or is in your lungs you can have respitory failure...at least call them and ask them...if it makes you feel better....REALLY! This can be caused by LONG car or train trips as well...anytime your legs are not circulating frequently for long periods of time....

Go to your doctor. Chances are you have picked up bronchitis or walking pneumonia. Don't panic. Panic makes an adrenalin response, which will make any respiratory problem worse. Calm down and you will breath easier.
