Across the street from me was a fellow who was staying with his parents. He's the prime suspect in the murder of a child and he was arrested for molestation of another child. The molested child's parent didn't want the child to testify so charges were dropped. Although this fellow was the last known adult to be with the dead child and he has shown an unusual interest in young boys, there was not enough evidence to go to trial. Fortunately, this fellow who now has a young boy of his own moved out of our neighborhood.
What I did was to notify the police that he was back in our neighborhood. I gave them a copy of the newspaper clippings regarding the murder, molestation and other criminal behavior. They more carefully patrolled our neighborhood.
Generally it is not effective to put up signs on a molester's home. You could be arrested for trespassing and you could be sued if the molester has moved and there are new people in the house. A sex offender could prosecute you for defamation if he hasn't been convicted of molestation but has pled guilty to lesser charges or charges other than molestation. The molester can simply remove the signs. Often, the police department has already notified neighbors of their predator.
Sometimes neighborhood groups pass out leaflets on child molesters. This has to be done with care as well.
It sounds to me like you have energy to spend addressing the problem of sexual predators. Perverted Justice, an online group, needs volunteers like you. They post information about predators on their website. Volunteers like you track down employers, neighbors and schools and inform them of the predators behavior. These are newly identified predators, so these people don't know about the behavior yet. You can also train for other tasks as well such as being a decoy that responds to predators as if you were a child.

Yes it is illegal, all information regarding sex offenders is on the sex offender website and that is as public as it gets. By you doing that you are ruining their assimilation back into society keeping them out-casted and pushing them to commit their crime again. It is true that many psychologists do not believe that a sexual deviant can ever be cured but if they maintain therapy they can control their urges. As a possible future parole officer I beg you people to step back and look from another view.
I understand you fear for you're children and loved ones. But why must we treat them this way? Is it a Not In My Backyard simplex? My advice is to get to know the person. They've served their time, you are not responsible for their punishment.
Every state has a Sex Offender Registry, to find yours go to your states website and search for sex offender registry.

It might depend on your state actually...check the revised statutes or call a child sexual assault department to be certain. If it is illegal, then I'd just send an anonymous post to the newspaper or something. There could be all kinds of loopholes...maybe if you can't post a sign, print out the name etc. off the registry, make 1000 copies or so and pass them out to neighbours and local schools.

Who cares if it's against the law. People need to know that these sick ****s are out there. Spray painting it on their house would be cool too. And put "chester the molester" on the mailbox with a bomb inside.

Yes, some sex offenders did nothing more than piddle in a public place and get caught, or have sex with someone under 17 when they themselves were only 18. Not all are child molesters

I think it is against the law. You are depriving someone of their freedom guarranteed them w/ our Constitution. What is not against the law is letting everyone you know where the offender lives and talking, age appropriately of course, to any children you know about the predator. Another question would be, Can a former predator ever become an asset to society? I wonder...

You can't trespass on a persons property so be aware of that. Also you cant put items in mail boxes (federal offense). But you can put flyers on peoples door steps as long as you dont have to go through private gates to get onto the property

It is trespass. It is enough that the person is listed in the offender registry. Sounds like you have issues. I gently suggest an anger management class...
