I would like to change my firefox setting such that it is not my preferred browerser setting, ie, it would prompt me everytime i open the firefox webpage ... how can i do it ?? Can somebody help??

In firefox, go to tools, options, general, default browser, untick this box, and then go to the other browser and under options choose, Check to see if default browser, check this one, and click check now, and answer yes..

Are you using Windows XP service pack two? If not, and it is windows xp, download service pack two. (windows.com/update) Then go to the start menu and click "set program access and defaults" then change the default browser to whatever you want.
