I fell off some rocks today while fishing. Dumb thing, I know, but it's sore and ugly(on my bum).

I caught the biggest black and blue anyone has ever seen, no fish.

time is the best thing for healing bruises-they have to run their course...but you can treat the symptoms...

no need to apply anything to it topically such as ointments unless the skin is open.

you can try a heating pad (no ice-the cold actually opens up the blood vessels increasing blood flow to the bruise and will slow healing)

take ibuprofen-it helps with pain and swelling since it has an anti-inflammatory in it. take 200-400mg every 6 hours but no more than 1200mg in 24 hours

Dip a cloth into a Hot(but not until scalding) water. Place it unto your bruise. Do it periodically until bruise dissolves.
Also, massaging on the bruise (careful, it'll hurt) with great, but not too excessive, circular-motion pressure will break off the clot of your bruise. Use medicated oil while massaging.

Unfortunaltly, there's not a whole lot you can do about bruises, you just have to let them go away on their own. But you could try some triple antibiotic ointment, that might help.

I have heard something called arnica will help but I'm not sure where to get it. Icing for about 20 minutes at a time may help too.

I massage in "Bag Balm" it seems to help take the pain away much faster for me. I can definately speak from experience, I've had too many injuries to count and I use it faithfully.
