I turned on the garden hose earlier today - didn't feel anything at the time, but now I have 2 puncture marks on my index finger. They look like pin pricks and are about 1/2 inch apart. We live in Maryland and have lots of snakes and spiders, so am thinking it was one of those... but which one? The area feels hot now. By the way- I am breastfeeding my baby- if whatever it was was venemous, should I be concerned for the baby? Thanks in advance.

I would say it was a spider, I wouldn't be concerned but you may want to contact your doctor just to be on the safe side.

If you were bitten by a snake or spider, the poison would enter your blood and anything that enters your blood would impact your breast milk. If the area is warm and swelling beyond what you would expect from a cut --I'm thinking you may have inadvertently cut yourself but didn't feel it with the cold water running--than I would see a doctor, just to be sure, just to be a responsible mom. Can you call a nursing hotline or medical hotline in your area to inquire? Perhaps a hospital ER department would provide that info for you? In Canada, we have what is called telehealth; nurses man the phones and provide 24/7 medical advice.

Sounds like a spider. As other people said, see a doctor. It being hot to the touch is a sign of possible infection or venom. I'd avoid breastfeeding until you're sure it's not poison, too, just in case. What might not hurt you too bad, could make a baby sick.

Sounds like a spider bite. I would go see the doctor and show them your finger. Spider bites can be very dangerous, especially the brown recluse. They can also make you very sick, and considering you are breast feeding your baby, I would think that the baby has a chance to get feverish also. Go see a professional.

Probably a snake bite! DO NOT breastfeed your child for the time being and rush to the hospital if you are feeling warm. If possible, check your body temperature. If it's high, then it's most likely a snake bite that caused you to get a high fever. Don't waste another second! It could be deadly! Go to the hospital now and tell them what happened.

Sounds like a spider bite.

Call the local ER and they may be able to tell you a salve to put on it to suck out any poisons.

I would recommend using hydro peroxide and make sure you finger is really clean.

If you start feeling ill, you could pass that on to your infant. Just call ER or local poison control number.

I think it's a spider bite and I would say go to a docter immediately and DO NOT breast feed your baby and go to a docter RIGHT NOW because it could have been a snake and it could have been venemous.

It could be a garden snake or just a thorn prick. I would go and check the docter ASAP to know if it is harmful for the baby. Andif it was a garden snake it is harmless.

My god,no matter what you think it is go to the doctor or emergency room. Many of these toxins can be passed through breast milk so find some other means of feeding your baby.A neurotoxin could mean instant death to your child but even myotoxins or hemotoxis could have the same result. There's no way that someone could tell you over the internet what you were bitten by so please go to the E room!
