How do you make them pretty and shiny again? What's the trick?!

It depends on what condition the paint.

Here are the steps to regain that showroom shine, assuming your paint doesn't have unrepairable paint:

1. Wash your car. Use a car soap designed for cars, not dishwashing soap. Use a sheepskin washing mitt and either 100% cotton towels or waffle weave microfiber drying towels to dry your paint. A lot of scratches/swirls come from using improper materials and techniques when washing and drying your car.

2. Clay your paint. You can get this product as many auto part stores. This process removes embedded contaminants from your paint and makes it as smooth as glass. Here's a link: http://www.guidetodetailing.com/articles.php?articleId=14

3. Polish. I would recommend using a polishing machine such as a Porter Cable 7434. This process removes a thin layer of the clear coat which eliminates the scratches and swirls that are very visible on black paint. Here's a link to using a PC 7434: http://www.guidetodetailing.com/articles.php?articleId=47

4. Add protection with wax or a sealant. What you use is up to you but this adds the final layer of protection for your paint and makes it shine even more. My personal favorite is Zaino but any wax or sealant will do.

Remember, a wax or sealant is only as good as the cleaning and preparation (claying and polishing) you performed on the paint before you wax or seal.

Good luck!

buff polish protect.

depends on how bad the paint is...how thick the paint is.

if you want it done right take it to a pro detailer chances are they can make it real nice again for you.

washing and waxing alone will not do the trick! dont believe 'em

I've had several black cars and I used to wax and buff them. Perfect shine. I love the color black. It's my favorite color....
