#1 unmed hospital birth
7 lbs 13 oz boy
about an 18 hour labor which included about 45 mins of pushing
2nd degree tear

#2 waterbirth in a freestanding birth center with midwife
7 lbs 7 oz girl
about a 4 hour labor with about 15-20 minutes of pushing
no tearing

#3 home waterbirth with midwife
8 lbs girl
about a 6 hour labor with just a few minutes of pushing
no tearing

My second was probably the most difficult labor. I attribute a great deal of that to it being the shortest labor. When your labor is really short (about 4 hours or under) it can often be very intense. Driving to the birth center in transition sucked too.

Third was definately the easiest. I am sure the relaxing atmosphere of being at home helped.

OK, my avatar looks like a guy, but I'm female. That said, I delivered the first without drugs, and it was a 42 hour labor, and it hurt like the dickens! My second was progressing slow, so I opted for the epidural (I was only at 4 cm) and within 30 minutes I was at 10 and ready to push. I think that was worse because it takes away the pain in your uterus, but you feel the pain lower down (all the way down). When you don't have the drugs, the pain in the contractions distract you from the stretching and tearing. My doc told me when I asked him about it before labor that if a woman doesn't use drugs the first time, then the usual mode is every subsequent pregnancy and delivery is more tolerable. Plus, you know you can handle it already and you don't have the fear factor of what the pain would be. Given the chance to do it over, if I'd known it would go so fast I would have skipped the meds. Plus, then you are numb and can't get up to use the bathroom, so you need to do the bedpan thing, and that is just embarassing, but the i.v. keeps you so hydrated you don't have the option not to go....

After my first I swore I'd never do it again. 12 hour labor and 3 hours of pushing...no drugs. My second was so much easier. Almost 6 years between my pregnancies. She came in about 6 hours and pushed 3 times. A world of difference. They say that first one is always the toughest. Good Luck!

The births being close at the same time might desire to have not any concerning no count in case you're able to furnish vaginally. this is to no longer say there could no longer be different issues to having a vaginal start, however the scale of time between pregnancies shouldn't impact you.

my first wasn't that bad, 4 hours, second was all damn day and went ok, third baby almost died, very very bad, fourth, baby didn't want to come out, but when she did very easy delivery and no stitches, so yes some are easier, but it just depends on the pregnancy, scar tissue, etc.
