"Gosh conie, the first thing I though of after reading your question was that "living" and "alive" pretty much mean the same thing ... I mean the word "word" should have an (s) attached. I'm not interested in making you angry, but, it's a turnoff for me to read questions on answers that are mechanistically incorrect. Of course, you might have intended to write in the singular instead of the plural. Maybe it was your intention to confuse the reader ... who knows?

When I hear the word living, I imagine a homeless person, just exsisting in this world. I imagine, lost souls that wonder the earth just taking up space, and getting lost in the streets.
But when I hear the word 'Alive' I see myself, my friends my family, living their lives, breathing, drinking, eatting, going to work going to school, laughing, and exsisiting in a world, and putting their two cents into it.
Thats what I see

Funnily, when I think of the word "living", what conjures in my mind is a picture of an earthworm!
Meanwhile, "alive" brings about the scenic picture of a forest and a peaceful lake.
Weird aren't I?

Jogging down the side of the interstate. When I'm in my Manic side, "Alive mode" I find my self jogging down the interstate. Later when I swing back to "Depression Mode", I catch my self saying "That was way to alive"............................I could have been ran over if a car ever gets into the shoulder.
But I don't wan't to live anyways

When I think of living, I think of going to work everyday (and thats not a bad thing because I love my job. And when I hear alive it makes me think of that song by pearl jam

"living": a warm-blooded human being, doing in some small, dark apartment hovel all the things that humans do -- eating, sleeping, sh*tting, having sex... basically, collecting, festering in, and processing various types of resources day after day... all the other gross things that make us human.
"alive": a fresh, green, glowing, beautiful plant, thriving in the sunshine, with succulent dew on its blades/leaves... generally making things beautiful simply by virtue of its own existence.

Living - I think of people walking on the streets everyday to go to work. And for those who don't - they go to places to look for things that can help them survive.
Alive - I think of people falling in love, be it normal or abnormal. I mean even if one's already commited and he/she finds another true heartfelt feelings for another, knockin' on his/her door. Feelings that heightens one's mood and give a more fresh and lively color to his/her world that he/she wouldn't want to end the day without at least looking at the picture of that lucky one. (Or day dream perhaps)

When I hear living I think of nature but when I hear alive I think of people. Thats kinda weird. lol
