The term "Congressman" generally refers to someone who has been elected to the House of Representatives, While a Senator is elected to the Senate.
There are three branches of Government - The Executive, The Judiciary, and the Legislative. The Legislative branch is made up of two chambers - The Senate and the House of Representatives. Together, they form the Congress. Although earlier I said that the term "Congressman" generally refers to someone who is elected to the House of Representatives, technically - or maybe I should say legally - both Senators and Representatives are Congressman.
But the typical, day to day usage of the term "Congressman" usually refers to a member of the House of Representatives. Senators are usually called just that - "Senator". When you hear the term "Congressman used in the news, it almost always means a member of the House of Representatives.
But, again, both legally and technically, anyone elected to either chamber is a "Congressman" since both the House of Representatives AND the Senate make up the "Congress of the United States of America" - which is the Legislative branch of our government
Every State in the Union send two Senators to the United states Senate - since there are 50 states, that makes for 100 US Senators.
Under the US Constitution, the total number of Representatives is set at 435 although Congress could changes that number.
When it comes to Representatives, each state sends a number of Representatives to the House of Representatives based on the population in that state. Some states with a very small population - think of South Dakota, or Vermont - only have 1 representative! Other very populated states like California, New York or Texas, have many representatives - NY has 29, California has 53, and Texas has 32.
Now, since you have asked what is the difference between a Represenative and a Senator, the answer is easy. A Senator is elected by a whole state - a statewide election - for a term of 6 years. So, the whole state of Alaska will vote for who will be their Senators.
Representatives are elected by districts, and only for a 2 year term of office. A state may have many districts, which do not overlap. You could vote for Joe Smith to be your Representative on your side of the street, while the people across the street might have an entirely different candidate - say, John Jones, just because they are in a different district. Districts boundaries are very quirky, due a practice called gerrymandering.
But the primary difference is that a Senator is elected by the whole state for a term of 6 years, while a Represenative is elected by his or her District for a term of 2 years.

A congressperson is either a senator or a representative, because the Congress has two houses: the Senate and the House of Representatives. A senator is a member of the Senate. A representative is a member of the House of Representatives.
Unfortunately, since English is not as precise as some languages, the President, Vice-President, senators and representatives are all "representatives" of the people.

A congressman represents the state, district or province that elected him in the Congress in making laws while a senator is elected in by the people from all states, districts or provinces of the country. Congress has limited legislative powers unlike the Senate which can pass laws on national issues. The Senate could disapprove the bills proposed by the Congress. Other than legislation, the Senate have more powers in investigation of issues and impeachment.

Congressman usually refers to a member of the House of Representatives. A senator is a member of the Senate. Because the House and the Senate are both part of congress, Congressman could refer to both.

The U.S. Congress is composed of two houses, and to become law a bill must be passed by both houses and then signed by the President.
One house is the Senate, there are two Senators elected from every state, regardless of how large or small the state is. Senators serve for six year terms. Senators are elected state-wide - everybody in the state is eligible to vote.
The other house is called the House of Representatives. Each state gets to elect a number of Representatives proportionate to the population. The state is divided into Congressional districts, and each district elects its own Representative. A Representative serves a two year term.
"Congressman" means a member of the House of Representatives.

Don't they teach political science or civics in school anymore? How did or will you graduate high school being so ignorant? There are two houses of government. Congress or the House of Representatives, and the Senate.
