I wanna say that in Latin America we have countries where 90% of the population is white (Argentina, Uruguay), where the majority of the population is black (Cuba, Dominican Republic) and where the indigenous are tha majority (Bolivia, Guatemala). And that all Latin American has at least three significant (more than 5%) racial groups: (whites, mixeds, indigenous OR blacks).

I think of "hispanic" as being an ethnicity or culture, not a race. Of course, I'm not a sociologist or anthropologist, so what do I know?

Hispanics is not a race.

People confuse ethnicity, culture, customs, locality of geography and language as race when it better describe nationalities. I confused the words Latino/a and Hispanic for a long time until I found out the real definitions of Latino/a and Hispanic. Latino/a is used broadly throughout the Latin America, and Hispanic is not. Hispanic was first started by the U.S. as it needed to make a category or better said 'categorized' for document purposes.

I barely know enough on the subject myself, but race it is not.

Not at all. Sure they may be some who do but it's not the norm by a long shot. Most hispanics are presumed to be mexican due to proximity of mexico to the US, but if anyone cares to know the nationality of a "hispanic" person, they just ask.

Race is a false device set up by one country as an excuse to enslave people of another country.

I don't believe in race - I believe in people and culture groups.

Yes...even worse, in the South, spanish-speaking people are always called Mexicans even though there is a diverse population.

Well, what's the real definition of race? It's all in your perceptions, and everyone has a different idea of what race really is, so I don't see why it would be so bad if someone though of "hispanic" as a race.
