Two things can explain the strange sounds that your are hearing from the hard drive,
1] Your system may be short on memory so the it is paging the hard drive [see virtual memory] the more critical this becomes the more often your computer has to use some of your hard drive as virtual memory. It is call trashing
2] Your hard drive is about to fail
Solution: first of all please back up all your files
For [1] buy more memory, the more the better. Check the computer documentation for memory up grade.
For [2] this is very important, do not turn off your computer! Go and buy a new hard drive, install the drive or get a computer service technician to set it up for you.
Good luck

I suspect that by "hard disk" you mean your computer, in which case it's probably just the fans getting old. You might want to take the side of the case off and put some compressed air through the fans, or even take your computer to a local shop and have the fans replaced. If it's actually the hard disk itself, it is going bad, and you must back it up immediately, buy a new one, and transfer the data to that one. It may also be possible to send yours back to the manufacturer and have it warrantied.

It sounds like the noise that the heads make when they move back and forth on an older style hard drive. Not necessarily an indication of a problem.
However a newer hard drive is not that expensive these days and if you really have an older hard drive, a new one would be much faster.

Yes, it is dying. Back up your data you can't live without and start saving for a new one. Hard disks don't make noise when they are healthy.
If the noise sounds kinda like a little bell, it will be soon.

If it's a long heavy grinding noise, yes yr hard disk is prone to damaging. Try to back up all yr datas before it's too late.

If it does go bad on you and you have valuable files not yet backed up, don't trash it just yet. Try whopping it with your hand or dropping it on the floor, or placing it in the fridge or freezer for a spell. they say this sometimes help to get it going again for a short spell. Then back up the data quick.

Hard drives usually make a rattling sound when going bad.

Use your CD burner to back up all of your files, documents, photos, songs etc. Your hard drive could be failing. If the drive fails all that you have could be lost.

If it's a grinding noise, you may just need to defragment or run an error check on your drive. If its a clicking noise (like a loud clock) start backing up your important files.
