It could be for a number of reasons..not enough water, to much fertilizer or not enough...or it may be the variety you planted..some heirlooms grow weird...but taste great..
I grew 55 tomatoe plants and all different varieties....I put my garden under the shade tree and everyone kept telling me they need the sun to grow..well here it is august and they still look awesome and eveyone elses are dying out...

Hhhhmmm maybe you over fertilized or got some genetically modified seed or seedlings that were deformed in the cells, how about trying heirloom tomatoes without the fish gene in them the taste is better but skin doesn't last as long.

maybe a lot of humidity. My tomatoes were really not impressive. I haven't had a fresh one in a few days and nothing is turning red right now.

Tomatoes are kind of funny. You want to make sure the blooms do not get wet. Otherwise they may grow abnormally or not grow at all.
