My trig is really rusty. How does one solve for x in this case?

Yes, I know the answer is 28. What I want to know is how to get there.

Thanks! Peter

Most people look it up in a table of sines and cosines printed in a math book or on the Internet. The sine of 30 degrees is .500 so when you look you will see that it shows the sine of 28 degrees to be .469

On your scientific or graphing calculator, press the "2nd" button (upper left hand corner, usually) then the "sin" button then enter .469. This will give you the arcsin of .469.

put .469 in your calculator and push the sin -1 button.
That will give you the inverse sine. Which is 27.97 degrees.

You could use this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unit_circle to manually solve it.
