I am in the mortgage Indus. when I am rude I get respect and people don't like me. If I am sweet, "lets take advantage of her". no respect.
So should I be more *****/corporate like?

MIGHTY MORTGAGE MINIONS

Sheesh gurl you are stuck in the middle.

Maybe you should try the "firm but fair" approach.

Look them straight in the eye with a half smile on your face. That tells them you are not unfriendly but you are business like because you are studying them. Wear a jacket, it is more a statement of business like attitude and may help send the visual image that you are to be taken seriously.

Hmm that all depends on the situation. I would have to say you should be in the middle. Be assertive and not to rude. All of corporation want there workers to be able to more proactive rather than reactive to a situation. I would have to agree that if your to nice then you would only get taken advantage of, but if your bitchy then you been seen as a rude and seeking your own gains. So it alot better to be more assertive because then you would respect from your coworkers and your clients without get tagged a bad attitude.

I wouldn't advise it. I don't agree w/u on that one. I especially don't give anyone respect when they're rude. I think there is a sayin, be nice to the ones that r rude 'cause it makes them mad. So if it makes u feel like u get respect 2 bein rude 2 others, Then yeah be bitchy. Sounds like u just get off thinkin ur gettin respect. Bein bitchy will make u think u got somekind of power!

There's a way to be nice/polite yet firm. There's no reason for you to be taken advantage of, yet there's no reason to be rude either. There is a middle ground -find it & you'll get more respect while not being taken advantage of.

No one here can tell you how you should be. You are the one who has to look at yourself in the mirror everyday. What do you want? You shouldn't let your job or the industry dictate to you who and what you are. It is possible for you be a nice/no nonsense business woman who people respect. What you have to do is find that balance. I will be praying for you. Peace and God bless.

You're describing extremes....you can be strong and direct without being rude and still get respect. Always treat others with respect.

Oh my...you don't have to do anything as long as your true to yourself. The most important is that, you speak whats on your mind. Try to observe first the person your with before act what's the best way to deal with that person.

soon, you will learn when to be "rude", "sweet" and "bitchy". who knows, you might hv to be a little bit of all. for now, take it as gaining experience.
