The answers received are positive comments but also check for loose play in the shift linkage to the transmission.

If it's a 4T60E {4 speed automatic} valve body replacement is probably required. Some of the valves become scored due to debris from the accumlator housing.
If it's a 3T40 {3 speed automatic} the forward clutch drum is suspect. It's been known to crack and separate from the shaft.
Even a torque converter, regardless of which trans, could cause that condition too. Either way...your looking at an internal trans problem

No, properly per chance. The transmission does not bolt as a lot because the Buick engine. you'll get an adapter even with the undeniable fact that. be particular to area out the torque converter to examine the thickness of the adapter.

Low on tranny fluid, the filter is clogged and needs new fluid and filter, OR it has a sticky valve. This has a 125C transmission and is very durable. Won't take much to fix it. Good luck.

First, you need to check the fluid level, if it's to low it will cause engagement concerns !!!! Make sure you check it when the car/tranny is hot and the shifter in Park. If the fluid level is full, then you have an internal problem !!!!
