lol, first man 55 miles up is in space (space starts at 35miles up).
What i would do is try to stay on the top side of the elevator.

The entire trip down would be great - completely weightless with no forces whatsoever on my body. Floating around in the elevator without a worry in the world. The landing, now that's another story.

Jump out...(If elevator is out of the building,just hooked for it ,so called in my country -"panorama elevator".)Cos elevator falls faster than body,and if I jump,I would maybe have some chances to survive...
Of course,if there is still gravitation force so high lol

open the doors to create more drag to attempt to slow the fall; pray; and then lie down on the floor to spread the impact over my entire body realizing that even if I don't die, it's going to leave a mark.

firstly, u wun realli fall as 55 miles up its almost weightless. secondly i wld hav died of lack of pressure long ago
