1: Brunelleschi was credited with perspective, which is a form of rendering 3-d objects on a 2-d surface. He used perspective to translate an object of one size into another size either scaled up or down. This required a mathematical computation, which he used in the construction of the dome. He used this principal to create a centric point of the dome and lay bricks in a herringbone pattern to make the dome self supporting.

2: Brunelleschi crated machines that would lift materials into place, much like a crude crane, using leverage and pulleys. Brunelleschi brought new scaffolding, arches and hoists, and lighter masonry into Renaissance architecture.
