I think it's another retarded move in a long string of retarted Hollywood moves over the past 15 years. Christian Slater would've been a way better choice because he got his whole acting style from Jack the original and best Joker. It's a bad idea to say the least but so was the tank of a batmobile and Batman having a threesome which is obviously bad for kids and superheros attract kids too. Or putting real flippers on the penguin. Other bad casting jobs I could think of are the Spiderman movies where Spidey looks the part but doesn't act like it and no one else does in the movie including MJ who was supposed to be super hot in the comic, and Osborne was not supposed to be a male model type but Spidey's demented short, balding friend. They show a total lack of respect for the original material because they get a God complex and start to think the subject matter is their creation. Just look at the crappy Godzilla with Ferris and the nipples on Batman and Robin in the LSD induced Batman and Robin crap. And how about a PG-13 Predator? He's supposed to collect human skulls.

Its a different choice than I would've made. Ledger is a fine actor, but not sure exactly what he will bring to the table as The Joker. My first two picks would be either Tim Roth or Adrian Brody.
Still, I'm open-minded enough to believe that if Christopher Nolan thinks he's right for the job, he must be onto something. After all, his casting choices for Batman Begins were spot-on (well, excepting Katie Holmes, she was brutal)

I couldn't believe it when I heard the news. Heath Ledger? The Joker is one of the best Villains ever created and they are gonna give the part to Ledger. I would have chosen that midget from seinfeld before Heath Ledger.

I was kind of expecting somebody different. I don't know who else, but i certainly wasn't expecting Heath Ledger. Oh well, I guess he'd be a more practical choice then Jack Nicholson again...

i think it is a horrible idea. they had a chance to bring batman back to the forefront of comics, but they keep blowing it. their is one guy who does weird and wacky better than anyone. he could have taken this role and completely revolutionized it and batmen. johnny depp. we have seen what he did with jack sparrow. whatever it would have cost i most definitely would have paid, he is worth the risk. if anybody can pull it off, it is johnny depp.

I think it is ridiculous, No one can beat Jack Nicholson in that role. Tommy Lee Jones will always be the best "Two-Face" and Danny Devitio the best "Penguin."

I couldnt figure out why they chose him until I remembered his smile. I think his smile fits the Joker character.
