They make false complaints to council about our dog, have thrown dog poo & dirt on my verandah & outdoor furniture, write nasty letters complaining about wind chimes, scream abuse over the fence, threatening to f#*k us legally!! What is the best way to sort this, they are not rational, they only yell. We have told them to stay off our property, they send their kids to ring our door bell and run a few times!

well, IS your dog going over to their yard to decorate their front lawn?

there has to be SOMETHING that is causing this harrassment. you cannot paint yourself here like the TOTAL victim here. what was your part in all this abuse. it just seems hard to believe that this hatred would have stemmed from nowhere. ask yourself this question. maybe try sending them a letter (through your local postal service - if you feel threatend by these people, there is no reason why you should go over there in person.)

this sounds like a real nightmare. try doing what some other Yahoo-er suggested. Record them in the act, video or tape record.

Good luck, hope the harassment stops..

The first thing I would do is call animal control to get the 150 lb rott out of there. I'm not saying all rotts are dangerous, but with kids around it's not worth risking. The next thing I would is to try to talk to your neighbor. I understand it's probably not going to help, but for the sake of setting an example for your child I would. If none of this helps, there isn't much you can do other than let the police handle it.

Start filing complaints with the Police Department. (You are creating a paper trail) Start taking pictures of damage, get a video camera and tape them yelling at you. Get an attorney to write them a letter to cease and desist or action will be taken. Since they are not rational, you have your hands full because they will not respond to neighborly rationale, onlly legal trouble. The downside is that they could retalitate further. Good luck. Would be a shame if you had to move.

Does your dog run loose and poop in their yard, sidewalk or driveway? If your dog is doing that, it should be leashed and curbed or kept in your yard when not indoors. Not everyone likes wind chimes, so that might be negotiable and worth the peace in your neighborhood..

Do you have a conflict resolution person in your neighborhood?

Our neighbor behind us had a tenant who would (while wearing a bathrobe early each morning) carry her dog across the easement, set it down, wait behind the fence and allow it to run in and poop in our yards or driveway. Then she retrieved her dog and returned to her basement apartment Sometimes our car would run over the poop and then we drive it into the garage and it's so stinky. After weeks of picking up the turds and tossing it back onto their driveway, I walked around the front and rang the owner's bell and complained to him. He denied tenant was doing this, but tenant began walking the dog on a leash in front of their house for awhile then she moved out. End of problem.

Owner still lives there and we get along. Home should be a refuge: It would be better to be friends rather than enemies with your neighbor: No one likes to spend time fighting -- especially with neighbors. The local animal shelter might know where you can sign up for obedience classes. Nice dogs are very appealing and neighbor's kids might get to like the dog -- and you, too, when they get to know you.

Oh, this will hurt to hear, but been there...done that. Taking the 'high road' is really your best option. believe me if they are unprovoked troublemakers (and yes, they do exist) the best you can hope for is that they will get bored with a lack of reaction from you. It doesn't hurt to discreetly collect evidence as a back up plan, in case it does turn threatening and you end up in court, but ignoring it can work. It took us over two years for that strategy to take hold. The sad thing is, they will probably change their focus after they choose someone else to harass.

Fill water ballons with roundup, 35 or 50 should do nicely. At night throw them all over there property. After 3 days wherever they landed the vegetation will be dead. Ah, revenge in sweet.

People like that do not go away.Calling the police ,is not the answer .Video cameras set up around the house,Motion lights that come on when someone comes into yard. The lights will make it easier to record. Now you should have means to prosecute, for Harassment.
