I planted poppy and nasturtium seeds last Spring. I have a 4 foot plant growing that has little blackish pods and some yellow flowers and I have no idea what this is...any ideas? It has large green leaves that are very soft to the touch, yet they are thick and hardy. They resemble leaves on an eggplant and they are heart shaped.

The pods are the size of a small strawberry. They resemble the shape of an acorn. And they are gray and black. I broke one open and it had soft, white seeds inside.

Sounds like velvet leaf, and now that you know... start pulling it out!!! Velvet leaf, is a very difficult weed ton control, particularly in agricultural settings, so if is in your garden, get all of those seeds and plants out before it becomes a problem!!

Your description doesn't fit either poppies or nasturtium-- poppies are upright with grey tinged leaves-- if you google you'll get a picture-- of both, actually. The nasturtium isn't a vine nor does it grow to 4 ft height.
One year I cultivated a "volenteer" that I thought was a flower-- was the toughest flower/weed to get rid of after that!! So you might have done the same--
Check plant sites and compare the leaves for identification-- and don't be surprised if you've made a weed happy.
good luck
