email customer service -- you'll find it on this page
(scroll just past halfway down- enter the information at the bottom of the page):
http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/musicstore/musiccard/
"I accidentally scratched off the activation code.
Please email our customer service department. Please include the serial number on the card and fill out as much of the card activation code as you can."

Mike could be right - if you can guesstimate the letters have at it and see what happens. Otherwise, fire an e-mail off to Apple Support (the link is on iTunes) and state your case - you'll never know how cool people can be unless you ask right?

Take it easy out there!

you might be in trouble. there is no way to make out the letters? well, maybe send it in to itunes with a letter and ask them what to do and if they can credit your account? good luck!

Give up, and just download the music for free from Torrent sites, or Limewire?
