There are several ways to do this, theres wats called the fake twirl and the real twirl. There are two different fake twirls, one in between the thumb and ur first finger and one in between ur first finger and ur middle finger, but the process is basically the same. To do this, balance the stick between ur fingers, and just sort of move ur fingers in a way where the both ends of the stick will rotate in front of ur palm and out side the back of ur hand, this takes a while to perfect, but it looks great. For the one in between ur thumb and fore finger, its basically the same motion, but u use ur wrist more. You can do this forwards and backwards.
For the real twirl, first postition the stick inbetween ur first and third fingers. Now, for small twirls for like fills and stuff, u want to do just a full turn, to do this, make the stick either move forward or back, and catch it in between ur middle and ring fingers, then keep going and catch it w/ ur first and middle (note: this may be confusing, but ur stick should never leave ur hand) For just twirling to impress, do the above, but only go as far as between the middle and ring finger, then act like ur gonna go to the pinky, but reverse the spin, and move it backwards all the way back to ur first finger, and move it almost to the thumb, and go forwards, this looks clool, also, but its a little harder to use around the set. For just flipping in the air, just flip it one half turn, or if u have a little more time, a whole turn and always make sure to catch it on the beat. Ur welcome.
