I am trying to convert an old 4 prong jack to the modular type. I bought an RCA modular wall outlet (model TP247) that has 4 wires (green, black, red, yellow) attached to screws with the other ends stuck in little holes in the top. I have coming from the wall, two sets of wires. Each set has a solid orange wire, an orange and white, a solid blue, a blue and white, a solid green and a green and white wire. The instructions say "connect the 4 wires to the corresponding terminal posts. Be sure to match wire colors"

1) Do I just leave alone the wires on the back of the outlet since both ends of each are attached, and then attach the appropriate wires from the wall to the screws?

2) How do I "match" two sets of 6 wires colored orange, blue, and green and striped versions of each to the 4 screws with black red, green and yellow ???

For that type of wire, the blue/blue white is the primary line, the orange/orange white is the second line, and the green/green white is a spare, in case either of the others go bad. You want to hook up the blue to the red (on the jack) the blue white to the green, the orange to the yellow, and the orange white to the black. You don't need to hook up the green, green white. Just make sure that the green wires do not have exposed wires at the end. However, this is all under the assumption that you house was wired correctly to begin with. Hope this helps!

edit: I just noticed that you said you have 2 sets of 3 pairs. You need to hook up both sets, or else you will lose some phones in the house.

Since the wires are oddly colored, you're out of luck in that respect. However, the terminal block that they're screwed to should provide a clue. Look carefully around the screws. You should see letters B R G Y embossed into the block. That's where you attach the Black/Red/Green/Yellow wires.

If you don't have this clue then try looking at the network interface (the gray box where the wires first enter the house) and seeing where they end up.

Worse comes to worst, just try experimenting with the connections until it works. But use a cheap $5 phone to test the connections since you could damage the phone this way.

in case you have a line jack unit you may desire to connect 3 wires the blue white is going to place 2 the white blue is going to place 5 and the orange white is going to place 3 then you certainly run the indoors cord decrease back to the main socket which will desire to have a front plate which comes off. you cord it the comparable way at this socket you may p.c.. up inner cord and line jack gadgets at any diy keep. the blues are for voice and the orange is for the telephone to ring (bt engineer)

I also agree with Claude to use a "cheap phone" to try.
